Black walnut-toned floor in HUAGE project materials

Ask separately about top-layer and overall engineered-board thickness

Face timber, wear layer and overall thickness describe different parts of wood flooring and need separate checks when comparing specifications.

Engineered wood flooring combines a solid wood surface with a layered core below. The face reveals visible grain; the full section explains construction. Colour samples and structural specifications answer different questions and should be reviewed together.

First identify which layer the dimension measures

For UK bespoke engineered flooring, HUAGE offers a solid wood wear-layer selection range of 3.0–4.0 mm. This is the top layer, not overall board thickness.

A complete brief should list total board thickness, length, width, wear-layer thickness, top-layer species and finish separately. Identify what each dimension measures rather than using one number for the entire board specification.

Approve pattern and construction separately

Wide/narrow boards, herringbone and chevron describe formats or patterns, not underlying layers. Compare desired appearance, then establish construction and dimensions for the project.

If the design team needs technical documents or an assessment of underfloor heating and site conditions, include those requirements in the brief and check the selected product against its supporting information.
